LOS ANGELES, Nov. 29, 2016—Boingo Wireless (NASDAQ: WIFI), the leading DAS and Wi-Fi provider that serves consumers, carriers and advertisers worldwide, today announced that its chief marketing officer, Dawn Callahan, has been named to Cablefax’s “Most Powerful Women in Cable” list. Callahan joins a prestigious group of executives who have been recognized for fostering innovation and leadership across the cable community.
A visionary leader, Callahan is responsible for all consumer-driven revenue generation streams at Boingo. Her purview includes Boingo Media, an advertising platform that enables brands to connect with consumers on-the-go by sponsoring the number one most requested amenity—free Wi-Fi—and Boingo’s retail business that connects people to over one million hotspots worldwide. Under her leadership, Boingo Media was named the 2016 “Outstanding Team of the Year” by Cynopsis Digital.
Callahan also helped launch Boingo Broadband, a Wi-Fi and IPTV product custom-made for the young men and women living in the barracks of the U.S. Army, Air Force and Marine Corps. The introduction of Boingo Broadband has been praised as a new trendsetting approach to cable service for a largely underserved market. Unlike traditional cable, Boingo’s services don’t require an installation appointment and are designed to be portable to suit a soldier’s transient lifestyle. Boingo Broadband received the “Marketing Team of the Year” honor from Cablefax earlier this year.
Prior to Boingo, Callahan spent 10 years with Time Warner Cable, now Charter Spectrum, where she was vice president of marketing for the Southern California region. During her tenure at Time Warner, she was named “Woman of the Year” by Women in Cable and Telecommunications (WICT) and was a Betsy Magness Leadership Institute Fellow in 2004-2005. Her early career began at Jones Intercable.
Callahan is a sought-after industry expert who champions women in the workplace, most recently speaking at Pace University’s One Day Immersion program and launching the inaugural Women in Sports Leadership Initiative at the SEAT (Sports and Entertainment Alliance in Technology) conference. She is passionate about bringing more women into the field of engineering and management positions. She was recently featured in the award-winning book, “The Confidence Effect.”
“This year’s ‘Most Powerful Women in Cable’ list represents an incredible group of leaders who are bright, savvy, charismatic and inspiring,” said Michael Grebb, publisher of Cablefax. “Dawn’s role in launching a lucrative broadband business, coupled with her commitment to empowering women, represents achievements that we are proud to recognize.”
“It is truly an honor to join a passionate group of women who are breaking barriers and transmitting messages of inclusiveness and diversity,” said Callahan. “Many of the successes in the cable industry over the last year can be attributed to a woman and that is an exciting step in the right direction. I sincerely congratulate my peers who have been named to this list and thank everyone at Cablefax for the recognition.”
Executives on the 2016 “Most Powerful Women in Cable” list include Oprah Winfrey, chairman, and chief creative officer of OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network and Bonnie Hammer chairman NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, among many other women leading the cable industry forward.
